SInce I began going to school (Kindergarten in 1981), I have always been in school - one way or another. From high school and college, through my husband's grad school and then mine, and then our teaching at a college, my life has been shaped by academic semesters: Fall, Spring, and Summer Break, for thirty-three years. We moved into this house in early August of 2009, and in the first weeks of school that year, I remember watching the big hostas in the corner of the back yard bloom. They are in bloom again today. Once summer turns truly hot and sunny, I don't go outside much. I'm bad with heat and bad with sun. I stop watering and weeding, and we barely get the grass cut. This cool summer has been so different. The usual tired-green colors of August are not here. There is plenty that is still lush. I don't have a lot of late summer flowers, but here are a few blooms. For me, summer is usually a time of rest. I didn't even post to this blog during July. Here is a collection of summer yard photos from the past two months.
