Linear Abstraction
From a very early age, I was trained as a dancer.
Initially I studied classical ballet and learned a great deal about intensity, expressivity, shape, and form.
When Modern Dance classes were introduced at my studio, I learned about movement.
As I developed a visual arts practice, I built on that foundation of movement studies learned through dance.
Lines show where movement has happened, and my linear abstractions are based on the movements of handwriting (and the visual characteristics of typography) and the slow, purposeful movement of trees as they grow and create a network of lines with their trunks and branches.
